Taiko, also known as wadaiko, is the art of traditional Japanese drums. It has held an important place in Japanese culture for hundreds of years. Taiko accompanies religious ceremonies, theatrical performances, and matsuri (popular festivals).
Our group, ReMi Taiko, was founded in 2005 by Rémi Clemente after a year-long stay in Japan where he learned the art of taiko with Sugeo Tamada, a taiko teacher in the Kawasaki area near Tokyo. The spirit in which Master Tamada transmitted taiko to us, and that we wish to continue sharing, is one of openness and sharing. We regularly organize concerts during which all members of the group, including beginners, are invited to participate.
In our classes, you will learn ancient and modern pieces in the matsuri style. Several types of drums (nagado, shimedaiko), as well as metal percussions (atarigane, chappa), and bamboo flute (shinobue) can be found. The practice also includes choreography and can be quite physical. Therefore, you should bring sports or comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement.
You will be introduced to the basic techniques of taiko (striking, position, movements, rhythms) and will quickly be led to learn pieces suitable for your level. No prerequisites are required; anyone, even without prior knowledge of music theory or percussion, can participate in the class.
Pouick
She joined ReMi Taiko in 2007 and has participated in numerous concerts and events in Switzerland, Europe, and Japan. She has also traveled to Japan where she participated in workshops with Master Tamada and the Dengakuza group. Since 2018, she has been teaching classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.
Daeliya
Daeliya joined the group in 2008. Having been introduced to the instrument through the matsuri (festival), she learned various aspects of wadaiko and has been teaching them for several years. This wealth of experience has allowed her to play in both amateur and professional groups. She shares her knowledge, teaches, and guides the practice of all levels.
Diego
Diego joined the group in 2008 at the age of 7. Already involved in music through playing the violin, which he began around the same time, he was quickly drawn to the playful and festive nature of taiko. Since then, he has regularly participated in the group's concerts, workshops, and other events. He currently teaches the intermediate level classes.

Yodeling is the cry that becomes a melody, sometimes nostalgic and contemplative, sometimes joyful and festive, it can be "raw" as well as very sophisticated, with the same purpose: to express oneself, to share a part of what moves us, to materialize the unspeakable.
