In the intimacy of an Hungarian evening

Traditional Hungarian music and dance is one of the jewels of Eastern European heritage. Once intimately linked to the village world, where they enlivened every stage of daily life, they have gradually left the countryside. Today, the tradition continues, and is being transformed, especially in the big cities. Children, young and old alike, are enthusiastically discovering this artistic treasure, delighted by its incredible potential for personal and collective expression. Traditional dances and music are now taught to a wide audience and practised at dance parties with live music (táncház). They accompany many events such as weddings, christenings and various "official" or more intimate celebrations. Nowadays, Hungarian youth, especially in the cities, actively participate in táncház every weekend, and more widely whenever they have the opportunity.

During this weekend at the ADEM, the artists, under the leadership of József Trefeli, propose a vast itinerary through Hungary and its neighbouring countries with two workshops and a musical and dance evening accompanied by a Hungarian buffet. From one village to the next, the music and dances of the Carpathian basin - sometimes composed, sometimes improvised - will parade before you.
