With Domenico Morello and Vincenzo Di Sanzo (musicians) and Nicola Scaldaferri (ethnomusicologist)
This session introduces emblematic instruments from Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily—zampogne, ciaramelle, tamburelli, flutes, and organetti—still little-known outside their regions of origin. Nicola Scaldaferri, Domenico Morello, and Vincenzo Di Sanzo will present their forms, timbres, and uses through demonstrations and exchanges with the audience. Rooted in rural culture and nourished by pastoral traditions, this inventive repertoire also highlights the essential role of dance in collective life and its social importance in Southern Italian communities.
