Gladys Ybargüen

Born in Ayacucho, in the heart of Peru near the imperial city of Cusco, Gladys discovered dance at the age of eight, captivated by the grace of its gestures, the richness of the messages they convey, and the splendour of Inca costumes. Immersed from childhood in the still-vibrant culture and traditions of her ancestors, she benefited from a direct and deeply rooted traditional learning. At the age of ten she moved to Lima, where she discovered the cultural diversity of her country: the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Peruvian culture and the elegance and gallantry of colonial Lima, influences that dance brings together in dialogue. During her schooling she continued training in traditional dances and, at fifteen, joined the troupe Waylias, where she deepened her mastery of dances from the three major regions of Peru.
