The Danube plain in southern Romania is home to a rich repertoire of traditional music and dance. In the 1990s, this acquired worldwide renown thanks to the Taraf de Haïdouks, a group founded under the impetus of Speranţa Rădulescu (Bucharest) and Laurent Aubert, creator of ADEM in Geneva. A new wave is emerging to revive this tradition, led by the now-famous Taraf de Teleorman, a group of Roma artists who embody this heritage with remarkable vitality and inventiveness.
