POLAR NOTES
Surprising, eclectic and energetic! These words capture the spirit of the music that comes from Finland, Sweden and Norway, which ADEM is showcasing during its winter festival. Is there a polar wind blowing? While that may be the case outside, in the fjords and deep forests, it’s a completely different climate that awaits us in the concert hall. Think youth, creativity and boldness – these seem to be the key words in a tradition where the fire never went out – a fire that still burns brightly today. So we open our ears to the enchanting melodies of the kantele and langeleik zithers, and the jouhikko bowed lyre, to the dance-inducing rhythms of the hardingfele nine-stringed violin, the hurdy-gurdy and nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle), as well as the charms of ancient ballads ….. We will enter the warm interior of a noble homestead or a wood cabin: there we will find, undoubtedly, a taste of the marvellous tales and legends of our childhood. Fabrice Contri
