Fr 8 November 2019 | 20:30 | Temple St-Gervais
The five singers who make up the Cuncordu e Tenore de Orosei choir invite the public to discover the most beautiful forms of Sardinian polyphonic vocals in the magnificent acoustic surrounds of the Saint-Gervais temple. Specialists of both sacred songs (a cuncordu), which are typical of religious orders, and the pastoral repertoire (a tenore) sung at village festivals and vigils, these musicians explore a vast palette of techniques and timbers with ease and innovation. Between quintina (where a ghost soprano arises out of the polyphony of four male voices) and period doubling (a contrario, where unusual basses seem to emanate from the depths), Sardinian polyphonies masterfully embody the rich sound of Mediterranean voices. In 2005, UNESCO inscribed cantu a tenore on its Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
