Steps is the recent duo project of Greek lutenist Vasilis Kostas and Jordanian-Iraqi violinist Layth Sidiq. It will be released as a CD in early 2022. A new encounter between two artists who, despite their youth, have been working together for a long time, forging a very personal style step by step. Their repertoire is based on original compositions while leaving a lot of room for improvisation: these are two essential conditions that allow them to navigate between their own language and the oriental musical tradition, which is itself based on a clever compromise between composition and improvisation. From the Tigris River to the mountains of Epirus, Greece, the duo aims to explore new structures and cross certain boundaries.

Vasilis and Layth have spent the last six years travelling the world on a mission to foster dialogue between cultures, in sometimes difficult socio-political contexts. They have performed in prestigious concert halls and academic institutions such as Tufts University (Massachusetts), Berklee College of Music, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall and... in Geneva, during the Nuits du Monde 2018. Convinced by the talent and ethics of these two exceptional artists, the Adem have chosen to invite them back this year to discover new territories with them.

In 2020, Layth Sidiq was named "Best International Artist" at the Boston Music Awards.
