Asin Khan Langa, singer and master of the Sindhi sarangi, belongs to the hereditary Langa community of musicians, a living tradition of folk music and Sufi poetry from western Rajasthan. The Sindhi sarangi, whose sound closely resembles the human voice, has for generations accompanied the singing and transmission of this repertoire.
Within the trio SAZ, alongside his partners Sadiq Khan (dholak) and Zakir Khan (khartal), Asin Khan Langa brings this heritage to life through ancient songs and original compositions inspired by the great mystical poetry traditions of both Islam and Hinduism. Supported by the Aga Khan Music Programme and honored with the Aga Khan Music Awards, this artistic journey has led the trio to perform on numerous stages across India and internationally.
The trio’s visit to Geneva, with the support of the Aga Khan Foundation, for performances at the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie (ADEM) and the AMR this evening, as well as a pedagogical engagement at the Haute école de musique de Genève (HEM), represents an exceptional event.
