The cimbalom, an emblematic instrument of traditional Hungarian music, resonates as the beating heart of the melodies of the Danube. This instrument belongs to the large family of struck string zithers, played with sticks, including the santour (Persian area), the medieval tympanon and dulcimer (Europe), as well as the hackbrett, well known to “folk music” amateurs in Switzerland. It is the privileged accompanist of popular dances and songs, subtly embodying all the nuances of the Hungarian soul. The musicians invited for this musical encounter will take turns presenting some of the facets of this famous instrument, which however remains little heard in Western Europe. The MEG opens its doors to allow you to discover it in the intimate setting of its music salon.
