"The Sultana of the lute", "the princess of the lute": this is what Yousra Dhahbi has been nicknamed. Born in Tunisia into a family of musicians whose father, a Sufi singer, brought up his children to the rhythm of the evenings of singing and rehearsals of his musical troupe, she received a particularly demanding musical training which opened the doors to an international soloist career. She has been called "the first female lute soloist in the Arab world". A highly creative artist, Yousra is an expert in the art of maqam (Arabic modality) and oriental singing techniques. She gives a fundamental place to improvisation, building her melodies with exemplary rigour and inspiration, beyond any cliché. In the intimate setting of the AMR, this concert will offer us the opportunity to taste the tarab (intense aesthetic emotion) of a musical tradition served by an exceptional soloist.
