Over two mornings, you will explore a remarkably rich vocal tradition. Through practical exercises, listening sessions and discussion, you will discover the distinctive features of traditional Ukrainian singing, as well as the cultural, historical and social context in which it developed.

Throughout the workshop, you will explore the foundations of the vocal techniques specific to these repertoires and learn several songs from different traditions. These will range from ancient ritual songs, sung with an open, powerful voice deeply rooted in folk practices, to more recent lyrical songs with subtler expressive nuances.

This approach will offer an insight into how a musical culture is passed on through the voice and collective singing. You will be encouraged to develop your listening skills, explore the natural resonances of your voice and experiment with different vocal colours in a friendly and supportive environment.

Open to everyone, with no previous musical experience required, this workshop is suitable both for those curious to discover a vocal tradition and for singers wishing to enrich their practice through an approach rooted in oral traditions.
