Since 2001, Lo  Còr  de la Plana has explored Mediterranean vocals by mixing its raw and fierce ‘archaic’ sounds with the unbridled inventiveness of today. 

Lo Còr de la Plana is made up of five singers – five voices that draw their inspiration as much from the Occitan tradition as from the different Mediterranean cultures – by using percussion and seeking out the trance rhythms that belong to gnawa music for example, or even through the influence of Corsican or Georgian polyphonies. But the group is also open to diverse vocal techniques, including the scansion of hip-hop, as well as the close polyrhythms of contemporary music and jazz.

After all, for this group, it is about interrogating the fixed and moving parts of tradition, its inventiveness, creativity, sensuality and existential questions. Glowing memory is the raw material that Lo Cor (‘heart’ in Occitan) crafts like an artisan.
