Enriched by fifteen years of touring, a third critically acclaimed album, and a long-lasting friendship, the artists of Zakouska blend their strong musical identities to invent, with delightful eccentricity, a new kind of European folklore — one that sweeps you away with bursts of wild laughter, sudden swerves, and invigorating gusts of fresh air.
For this concert designed for young audiences, they set out in search of a magical horsehair which, through an ancient Romanian technique, reveals the very soul of the violin. In this imaginary epic, the audience spins within a musical whirlwind brimming with inventiveness, impetuosity, and groove — all spiced with the good humor and contagious joy of four virtuoso musicians.
Accordion, guitar, violins, and lyra blend in perfect harmony, drifting with effortless fluidity toward jazz and improvised music. A wind of freedom and modernity then sweeps across the traditional sounds of Eastern Europe, carrying them all the way to the shores of the Mediterranean.
Élodie Messmer — violin, percussion, vocals
Aline Haelberg — violin, lyra, vocals
Arthur Bacon — accordion, percussion, vocals
Fabien Bucher — guitar, percussion, vocals
Original compositions and traditional music from Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Crete.
